Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Victorian era, bedside cabinets were commonly referred to as pot cupboards, designed primarily to conceal chamber pots and provide a surface for candles or water carafes. As sanitation evolved, these functional pieces of bedroom furniture transitioned into storage cabinets for personal items while retaining their distinctive compact proportions.

Late nineteenth-century furniture makers utilised durable hardwoods such as ash, oak, mahogany, and walnut. Cabinets were constructed using traditional joinery methods including dovetail joints, field-panelled doors, hand-carved decorative motifs, and cast brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of traditional craftsmanship, such as hand-cut joinery, original brass fitments, and subtle variations in the wood grain typical of ash timber. Original items often display natural surface wear around handles, plinth bases, and interior shelving consistent with nineteenth-century age and usage.

A Victorian wooden cabinet can be paired alongside contemporary neutral bed linen to add depth and textural contrast. Beyond the bedroom, these compact pieces function effectively as side tables beside armchairs or as standalone accent storage in hallways and reading nooks.

Maintain the timber finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent warping or shrinkage of the solid wood construction.
