We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Brass candle boxes were commonly used in homes during the 18th and 19th centuries to store tallow or beeswax candles safely away from dust and pests before the widespread adoption of paraffin and electricity.

These pieces were typically crafted from sheet brass, often joined with soldered seams, and decorated using hand-punched or engraved motifs, frequently featuring initials or geometric patterns.

Authenticity is generally identified by period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut sheet metal, traditional soldering, period hallmarks or owner initials, and natural age-related patination.

This type of decorative object can be mounted on a wall as a focal point or placed upon a mantelpiece or bookshelf to introduce metallic warmth and historic character into a contemporary scheme.

Brass items should be kept dry and dusted gently with a soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that can strip away the historical patina.
