Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian tub armchair, also known as a barrel chair, features a low, rounded backrest that wraps continuously into integrated armrests. Popularised during the 19th century, these chairs often incorporate deep button-backed upholstery, decorative timber splats, and turned legs with castors.

Victorian tub armchairs were typically constructed with solid hardwood frames, such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. Internal cushioning relied on natural materials like horsehair, coir fibre, and hessian webbing over steel coil springs, covered in woven textiles such as damask, brocade, or velvet.

Authentic Victorian examples feature hand-carved solid wood frames with mortise and tenon joinery, original brass or iron castors on turned front legs, and hand-bound coil spring construction. Examining the underside will often reveal hand-stitched webbing and historical stuffing materials rather than modern synthetic foam or staples.

A Victorian tub armchair works well as a statement accent seat in a bedroom, study, or living area alcove. Positioning patterned traditional upholstery alongside minimalist modern side tables, neutral wall palettes, or plain wool throws bridges historical design with contemporary spaces.

Dust fabric regularly using a soft brush or low-suction vacuum attachment. Apply a natural beeswax polish to the exposed wooden frame using a lint-free cloth, ensuring the piece is kept away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage or textile fading.
