FAQs

A Georgian tea caddy is a small, lidded box or chest manufactured during the Georgian era, specifically designed to store and preserve expensive loose-leaf tea.

Traditional tea caddies were frequently constructed from fine hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and burl veneer, often featuring contrasting stringing, brass escutcheons, and interior foil linings.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails, older secondary woods, patinated hardware, and natural beeswax finishes rather than modern synthetic lacquers.

An antique tea caddy can be displayed as a decorative object on a console table, mantelpiece, or bookshelf to add texture, historic character, and warmth to a modern living space.

Preserve antique wooden boxes by keeping them away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, cleaning them only with a soft, dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax.
