FAQs

Carved wooden mirrors have been utilised as functional and decorative centrepieces for centuries, often reflecting the dominant artistic movements and craftsmanship techniques of their respective periods.

Authentic period mirrors typically feature solid timber frames such as oak, pine, or fruitwood, joined at the corners with traditional joinery and finished with hand-carved ornamentation.

Authenticity is generally identified through the presence of hand-carved details, traditional tool marks, period-appropriate joinery, and ageing characteristics such as foxing on the glass plate.

Placing a traditional carved mirror in a contemporary room creates a striking focal point, adding texture, depth, and historical contrast to minimalist or modern spaces.

Preservation involves keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity levels, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners.
