Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Authentic pieces typically exhibit the distinctive pitted orange-peel texture of salt glaze, hand-finished details, weightiness characteristic of dense stoneware, and signs of age such as minor surface wear, kiln marks, and natural oxidisation.

These textured ceramic vessels add historic character and earthy warmth when placed on bookshelves, mantelpieces, or coffee tables, serving as tactile sculptural accents that complement both traditional and contemporary schemes.

Preserve antique stoneware by dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or submersion in water, especially if the piece has historic repairs or porous unglazed interior surfaces.

These jars are crafted from dense stoneware clay, moulded in relief with decorative scenes, and fired at exceptionally high temperatures until vitrified. The salt vapour reacts with the silica in the clay body to produce a durable, glossy glaze finish.

Salt glazing is a ceramic technique where common salt is introduced into the kiln during the high-temperature firing process, creating a characteristic orange-peel texture on the stoneware surface. This method gained widespread popularity in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly in Germany and Britain.
