We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

The balloon back style, prominent during the 19th century, features a continuous, rounded wooden backrest shaped like a balloon, offering both ergonomic support and refined aesthetic appeal.

These chairs are traditionally crafted from solid mahogany, prized for its durability and rich grain, and feature upholstered drop-in seats traditionally filled with horsehair and wool.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut tenons, subtle variations in wood grain, traditional patination, and wear patterns consistent with nineteenth-century manufacture.

They can be paired with a minimalist modern dining table to create a striking contrast between old and new, or integrated into a classic dining space to add historic character.

Maintain the wood by applying microcrystalline wax periodically, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and keeping the furniture away from excessive humidity or heat sources.
