Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A tambour filing cabinet features a flexible slatted door that slides along tracks to conceal interior drawers or shelves. They gained immense popularity during the late 19th and early 20th centuries in commercial offices and libraries for their space-saving design.

These cabinets are typically constructed from solid oak or oak veneers, featuring individual wooden slats (slats of wood glued to a fabric or canvas backing) to form the flexible tambour door. Traditional joinery such as dovetails on internal drawers and panelled sides are standard.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut joinery, solid brass or bronze hardware, cotton or canvas backing on the tambour slats rather than modern synthetic mesh, and visible age-related patina on the timber surfaces and interior tracks.

This piece works exceptionally well in a home study or living room to add warmth and texture while concealing modern clutter. Pairing it with contemporary minimalist furniture creates a balanced, eclectic aesthetic that highlights the traditional craftsmanship.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the wood and protect the finish. Avoid placing the cabinet in direct sunlight or near heat sources to prevent the wood and tambour tracks from warping.
