Bobbin-turned or spool-turned furniture dates back to the 17th century, drawing inspiration from textile bobbins and experiencing notable revivals during the Victorian era.

These pieces are typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as oak, beech, or ash, frequently paired with woven seats made from cane, rush, or split straw.

Authenticity is assessed by examining traditional joinery methods, hand-turned lathe marks, timber shrinkage, and the natural patina developed on the wood over centuries.

They make versatile accent pieces that can be used as desk chairs, paired with a modern minimalist table to create striking textural contrast, or placed in an empty corner as decorative elements.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber drying, and applying microcrystalline wax sparingly to nourish the wood finish.
