Beautiful & Rare Penny Moon 30 Hour Grandfather Longcase Clock. Circa 1750.

Attractive Flame Mahogany Case with Shaped & Reeded Hood Columns, Long Trunk Door & Between Reeded Columns, All Raised on Bun Feet.

Height 85.35in or 216.30cm

The Movement With Working Penny Moon, Moon Day Window & Date Chapter.

The Brass & Gilt Dial with Silvered Chapter Ring & Well Formed Corner Spandrels with Cherub Heads. Signed Edward Barlow Oldham (Lancs).

The Movement has been Checked, Serviced & Tested - Offered in Good Working Condition.

Please Note that this clock was made Edward Barlow of Oldham and not by Edward Barlow (Booth) as suggested by the label stuck to the back of the trunk door. Edward Booth(famous for claiming inventions) was born in 1639 at Warrington and lived at Park Hall, Charnock Richard (Lancs) changed his name to Barlow but it appears that he had no connection with the Various other Barlow Clockmakers from Around Oldham and the Surrounding Area. But the label is part of the clocks history.

In Brian Loomes’s Book of Watch and Clockmakers of the World there is an Edward Barlow circa 1750-60 at Oldham and this would fit with the style and construction of the movement and case.
