George I style Chinoiserie draws on early 18th-century English interpretations of East Asian artistic motifs, typically featuring hand-painted gilt designs on dark lacquered grounds.

These pieces generally employ a wood substrate finished with layered resin or lacquer, complemented by hand-applied metallic gilding and intricate painted detailing.

Authentication involves examining the backing, the composition of the wood, the ageing of the mirror plate, and the micro-craquelure within the lacquer layer.

Pairing an ornate historical piece with minimalist modern surroundings creates a striking focal point that highlights the craftsmanship of the object.

Dust gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and avoid using chemical solvents or moisture, which can damage the delicate gilt and lacquer surface.
