Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

William Kent style mirrors from the early 18th century are characterised by heavy architectural proportions, Palladian influences, and elaborate giltwood carvings often featuring eagles, scrolls, and acanthus leaves.

These pieces typically feature a secondary wood such as pine or oak, veneered with finely figured walnut, and adorned with water-gilded gesso carvings. The mirror plates are often hand-bevelled and held in place by traditional wooden backs.

Authentication involves examining the construction of the wooden frame, the composition of the gesso, the ageing and oxidisation of the mercury or silvered mirror plate, and hand-cut joinery consistent with the period.

A large antique pier glass can be mounted above a console table or mantelpiece to create a striking focal point, reflecting natural light and adding historical contrast to contemporary architectural spaces.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity and temperature levels to prevent wood movement and gesso cracking. Cleaning should be limited to gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding all liquid cleaners and abrasives.
