Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Maintain the frame by dusting gently with a soft brush and avoid spraying liquid cleaners directly onto the glass or gilt surface to prevent moisture damage to the backing and finish.

Positioning the mirror above a fireplace or directly on the floor leaning against a wall introduces verticality and classical contrast to contemporary minimalist or transitional spaces.

Authentic period examples often display historic backboards, hand-cut screws or old fixings, minor foxing or silver oxidation on the mirror plate, and traditional gesso cracking consistent with age.

These pieces typically feature a carved wooden base or plaster composition applied over a wooden armature, finished with gold leaf or gilt paint, and fitted with heavy glass plates featuring bevelled or flat edges.

Victorian overmantel mirrors are large, decorative looking-glasses traditionally designed to be hung or placed on the mantelpiece above a fireplace, often featuring arched tops and ornate gilded frames that reflect light and expand the sense of space in a room.
