Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating between 1901 and 1910, Edwardian overmantel mirrors were designed specifically to sit directly above a fireplace mantelpiece. They frequently incorporate Arts and Crafts or Art Nouveau decorative influences, such as heart-shaped mirror apertures, integrated side display shelves, and carved organic motifs.

These mirrors typically feature frames constructed from dense hardwoods, such as beech, birch, or mahogany, which were treated with a dark ebonised lacquer or black stain to imitate ebony wood. The mirror plates were generally bevelled glass.

Authentic period examples exhibit traditional joinery, including mortise and tenon joints on the frame reverse, genuine age-related foxing to the glass silvering, hand-carved detailing, and original cast brass mounting brackets.

An ebonised overmantel mirror can be mounted above a living room fireplace surround or placed over a hallway console table. The small side shelves provide functional display surfaces for small ceramic pots, decorative ornaments, or candles.

Dust the lacquered wooden frame regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid using harsh chemical solvents or abrasive creams that could strip the lacquer; glass cleaner should be applied directly to a cloth rather than sprayed onto the mirror surface to prevent liquid seepage behind the frame.
