Georgian seating, spanning the reigns of George I to George IV, is characterised by classical proportions, sophisticated joinery, and a transition from heavy walnut to refined mahogany as the primary timber.

These pieces were typically constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring traditional mortise and tenon joinery, horsehair stuffing, and heavy brass castors.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting hand-cut joints, original timber oxidisation, hand-forged fixings, and traditional upholstery foundations beneath any later recovering.

Pairing a traditional heritage chair with clean-lined modern architecture creates a balanced contrast, often enhanced by re-upholstering in contemporary neutral textiles.

Maintain the timber by avoiding direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity, applying microcrystalline wax sparingly, and protecting antique fabrics from excessive wear.
