Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Howard and Sons was a premier British furniture maker established in London during the nineteenth century, renowned for producing high-quality upholstered seating. Their chairs became staple furnishings in English country houses due to their ergonomic comfort and patented construction methods.

Victorian armchairs typically feature hardwood frames made of mahogany or walnut, constructed with hand-tied steel coil springs and stuffed with natural horsehair and down feathers. External elements often include cotton or wool upholstery fabric, turned timber legs, and solid brass castors.

Authentic pieces usually feature maker stamps on the inside of the rear legs or stamped metal castors bearing the name Howard & Sons London. Many original frames were also wrapped in signature monogrammed ticking fabric underneath the outer upholstery.

A Victorian armchair can be positioned as an accent piece alongside contemporary neutral sofas to create visual texture and balance. Placing the chair in a quiet corner with a modern floor lamp and side table creates a dedicated reading space.

Regular gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment prevents dust accumulation within the fabric weave. Spot cleaning should be handled with specialized upholstery cleaners tested on an inconspicuous area, while direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent fabric fading.
