FAQs

Edwardian mirrors typically feature lighter, more delicate frames compared to heavy Victorian pieces, often drawing inspiration from Neoclassical and Sheraton revivals with symmetrical brass or inlaid wooden borders.

Frames were commonly constructed from cast or pressed brass, gilt gesso, or rich timbers like mahogany and satinwood, holding high-purity glass with hand-ground bevelled edges.

Authentic pieces often exhibit period characteristics such as backboards made of old growth timber, oxidized brass hardware, hand-bevelled glass showing slight optical imperfections, and traditional flathead screws.

Hang the mirror on a plain painted wall to create a striking contrast between modern minimalism and antique metallic warmth, or position it opposite a window to amplify natural light.

Dust the frame gently with a soft microfibre cloth without using harsh chemical metal polishes that can strip the historic patina, and use a vinegar-based cleaner applied to the cloth rather than the glass directly.
