FAQs

Windsor chairs originated in England during the early 18th century, characterised by a solid wooden seat into which the legs and back spindles are directly inserted.

They were typically constructed using a combination of timbers, such as an elm seat for strength, ash or oak for the bent parts and spindles, and beech or fruitwood for the turned legs.

Authentic pieces often show tool marks from adzes and drawknives, hand-turned components with subtle irregularities, and wedge tenon joints where the spindles pass through the seat.

It can be placed in a living space as a standalone decorative object or used to display items like vintage books, adding historic texture and scale contrast to a room.

Keep wooden chairs away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber splitting, and occasionally apply microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the aged finish.
