Treen refers to small, functional wooden domestic objects made by hand or on a lathe, primarily from the 16th through the 19th centuries before mass manufacturing became dominant.

Craftspersons commonly used close-grained native hardwoods such as boxwood, fruitwood, sycamore, and maple because they held fine lathe-turned details well.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit tool marks from manual lathe work, age-related shrink cracks, and a deep, waxy patina developed through decades of handling.

Grouping small objects on a stack of books, a mantelpiece, or a desk introduces organic texture, historical depth, and warmth to modern minimalist spaces.

Keep wooden items out of direct sunlight and away from rapid humidity fluctuations, applying microcrystalline wax sparingly to nourish the surface when necessary.
