Eighteenth-century furniture is characterised by hand-crafted joinery, functional designs, and the use of native hardwoods such as oak, ash, and elm before the widespread adoption of imported mahogany.

Pieces from this period were constructed using solid native timbers, hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, wooden pegs, and hand-planed surfaces that show natural tool marks.

Authenticity is identified through patination, tool marks consistent with hand-working, timber shrinkage, and traditional joinery methods rather than modern fixings.

Pairing historical wooden tables with contemporary minimalist seating or placing them in minimalist spaces creates a balanced contrast that highlights the natural grain and age of the piece.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels, avoid placing timber near direct heat sources, and treat surfaces periodically with traditional beeswax to nourish the wood.
