FAQs

Treen refers to small, functional, handmade wooden domestic objects. It reached a peak in popularity and craftsmanship during the 18th and 19th centuries before mass manufacturing took over.

Craftsmen typically utilised dense, fine-grained hardwoods such as fruitwoods, boxwood, laburnum, and burr walnut, which could be accurately turned on a lathe and polished to a high lustre.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-turned concentric rings from a lathe, natural patina and wear consistent with age, tight-fitting lids, and often traditional material inserts like silver coins or bone.

Small wooden items add warmth and historical texture when displayed on surfaces such as bookshelves, coffee tables, or desks, often grouped together to create curated vignettes.

Preserve the natural patina by keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity. Clean gently with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding water, harsh chemicals, or modern polishes.
