George III Mahogany Apothecary Cabinet

George III Mahogany Apothecary Cabinet. The Cabinet , solid Mahogany top flush carry handle and twin brass escutcheons, one false for symmetry. When unlocked the right door opens and the left door can be unlatched from the inside. Both doors hinge outwards revealing an extensive contents of Georgian medicinal bottles. Each door holds six glass bottles with stoppers, many with the original contents. Four larger glass bottles above two mahogany drawers. The lower drawer, lined with red velvet contains three small glass bottles, stoppers and contents along with two glass jars with lids and contents. and a glass mortar & Pestle. The top drawer houses a set of brass scales, a funnel and a plaster iron ( plaster iron, plasters of various make-up were applied to the body as a counter irritant. This instrument, sometimes called a blister iron was used to spread and keep warm the matrix of the plaster.
