This Arts and Crafts side cabinet dates from 1890 and is constructed from mahogany with brass hardware and glass panes. The warm brown timber displays a polished finish with visible grain patterns across the structure, complemented by clear glass within the three doors and aged fabric lining the interior shelving. Decorative elements include a dentil cornice above, elaborate foliate and scroll carvings along the frieze, carved shells upon the knees of the cabriole front legs, and arched astragal glazing bars. The cabinet measures 189 cm high, 163 cm wide, and 43 cm deep. Positioned in a dining room, hallway, or living area, this piece provides practical storage and display space for tableware, glassware, or decorative collections. The upper glazed section keeps items visible yet protected from dust, while the lower open undertier shelf offers additional display or storage capacity for books or decorative objects. The traditional design and rich mahogany tones suit period English Country House interiors as well as traditional homes seeking functional antique storage furniture.

Arts and Crafts and revival side cabinets from the late 19th and early 20th centuries feature solid timber construction, hand-carved architectural details, and functional glazed compartments designed for display.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised solid mahogany alongside mahogany veneers, incorporating hand-cut dovetail joints, astragal glazed door frames, hand-blown glass panes, and cast brass fittings.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved decorative motifs, subtle wave patterns or irregularities in the glass panes, uneven hand-cut dovetails on internal framing, and natural oxidisation on the timber.

Position the cabinet as a focal feature against a neutral backdrop, filling the upper shelves with curated ceramics or glassware, while leaving the lower shelf uncluttered to maintain visual proportion.

Dust wood surfaces with a clean microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax along the grain once or twice annually, and clean glass panes using a vinegar solution applied directly to a cloth rather than sprayed onto the cabinet.
