Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian Chinese Chippendale display cabinet is constructed from dark brown mahogany with glass and brass. The upper section contains two glazed doors with geometric astragal glazing bars enclosing shelves inside. Below, the base incorporates two long drawers detailed with blind fretwork decoration and fitted with small round brass pull handles. The piece stands elevated on slender cabriole legs featuring carved details at the knees, terminating in pad feet. The cornice is finished with a carved dental moulding underneath. Measuring 180 cm high, 104 cm wide and 43 cm deep, the cabinet functions as a sophisticated display and storage unit for a living room, dining room or hallway, providing an authentic English country house aesthetic while housing glassware, books or collections.

FAQs

Chinese Chippendale style originated in the mid-18th century, popularised by cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale. It integrates oriental design elements, intricate blind fretwork carvings, geometric glazing bars, and pagoda motifs into classic Georgian furniture forms.

These cabinets were constructed from solid mahogany or fine mahogany veneers, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, glass panes held by geometric wooden astragal glazing bars, and cast brass drop handles or escutcheons.

Authentic period and high-quality revival pieces showcase hand-carved blind fretwork, individual hand-cut glass panes fitted behind wood glazing, precise dovetail joinery, and natural age-related oxidisation on interior timber.

Position the cabinet as a focal point against neutral or dark walls, styling the interior shelves with curated ceramic collections, glassware, or art books to bridge traditional cabinetmaking with contemporary design.

Dust the exterior woodwork regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish annually to nourish the mahogany. Clean the glass panels using a mild glass cleaner sprayed onto a cloth rather than applied directly to the glass frame.
