The underside of the seat has been re-webbed in the traditional manner. On the back of the set is part of either the manufacturers or retailers’ label, which makes reference to 91-93 Hanover Street, Edinburgh. The Edwardian desk chair sits on four splayed oak legs that terminate on the original steel castors, which are in good condition. The desk chair incorporates a restored Hillcrest mechanism allowing it to smoothly rotate 360 degrees and recline backwards. The seat height can be adjusted by revolving the chair, while the tension of the reclining action can be adjusted by turning the small wheel on the front of the mechanism. The Edwardian office chair is extremely comfortable to sit on as it features a lovely upholstered seat with a high back.
Condition Report:
The seat has been newly upholstered, to a professional standard, in top quality full grain green leather. The reclining and adjustable height mechanism is in good working order, having been cleaned and restored. There is some play to the revolving mechanism but this is perfectly acceptable, and in line with the age of the chair. The Scottish antique Edwardian office chair boasts a rich golden oak colour, having been cleaned and French polished by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop. This revolving office chair retains its original steel castors, which are in good working condition. This oak office chair is solid in joint and ready to use.
