This Georgian mahogany serpentine toilet mirror dates from the 19th century and brings traditional English Country House character to a home. The piece stands 58 cm high, 44 cm wide, and 20 cm deep, making it well-suited for placement on a sideboard top in a bedroom or dressing room. The timber displays a rich warm brown tone with distinct figure in the wood grain, complemented by crossbanding and bone turned knobs. The original oval glass plate tilts within curved supports, rising above a serpentine front base fitted with three small drawers. Shaped ogee feet support the structure below. Visible details include scrolled terminals on the upright supports, light-coloured inlay outlining the drawer fronts, and a keyhole escutcheon centred on the middle drawer. The glass plate shows small age spots across the surface. Use the mirror on a dresser, sideboard, or chest of drawers to add practical surface storage and traditional style to an interior space.

A Georgian toilet mirror, also known as a dressing mirror or toilet glass, is a small tabletop mirror designed to sit atop a chest of drawers or dressing table, popular throughout eighteenth-century Britain.

These mirrors were predominantly crafted using solid mahogany or rich mahogany veneers, fitted with hand-carved supports, silvered mirror glass, and delicate bone, ivory, or brass turned handles.

Authentic pieces often feature hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, original mercury-silvered glass exhibiting natural oxidisation, and classic period details like serpentine-front bases and inlay stringing.

Place the mirror atop a modern sideboard, console, or chest of drawers in a bedroom or hallway to create a focal point that introduces historical texture and warm wood tones.

Dust the timber regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, polish occasionally with natural beeswax, and clean the glass glass lightly without allowing liquid solutions to contact the wood.
