FAQs

A Victorian music cabinet is a specialised piece of furniture designed in the 19th century specifically for storing sheet music, scores, and musical accessories in the home parlour.

These cabinets were typically crafted from solid timber frames veneered in highly figured woods such as burr walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, often featuring marquetry inlay and brass gallery rails.

Authentic pieces exhibit period construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional timber shrinkage, historical patination on the hardware, and interior shelving labelled for specific types of sheet music.

An antique music cabinet can serve as a sophisticated bedside table, a living room accent piece for media storage, or a striking focal point paired with contemporary art to create textural contrast.

Maintain burr walnut by keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to protect the delicate veneer.
