N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The monkey is sat with his head resting on his hand and he has a cigar in his other hand. The monkey has glass eyes which adds to the charm of this piece.

As can be seen from the photographs this is a wonderful subject.
The top section lifts to reveal a hollow for tobacco within equally it could be used to store trinkets.
The jar is circa 1860 / 1880.
The approximate MAXIMUM dimensions are: 22.5 cm high x 10 cm wide x 8.5 cm deep

CONDITION: From the photographs you can see that this is a lovely jar which are in lovely condition but there is a fine shrinkage line to the bottom of the front and a shrinkage line which runs top to bottom at the rear which can be viewed in the photographs.
