A good set of 4 hoop back dining chairs with shaped elm seats. They stand on turned legs joined by H-stretchers. One is slightly darker than the other three but they go well together as a matching set.
They were originally made for the military and have various stamps below the seats including the Crows Foot and ''WD'' below a crown which stands for War Department. They would have likely been used in the Officer''s Mess and are very solidly constructed.
The chairs stand approximately 33'' (84cm) high and 17 3/4'' (45cm) deep. The seats are 14 1/2'' (37cm) wide and 18'' (46cm) high.
They are all in good condition and are strong and sturdy with no major damages. There are some minor signs of age and use, some marks and light knocks on the seats and around the legs but nothing detrimental and they have a lovely patina. They have been gently cleaned and polished and are ready for use.
