Description

This is a lovely Adirondack stick chair. Made from steam bent twigs and solid timber. The originality is fabulous and is perfectly useable but while not in use its sculptural construction makes it hugely decorative. The condition is very good and is a heavier chair than you expect. I have always loved these pieces of folk art and try and find them when I can but they are getting harder to find.

Adirondack rustic furniture originated in the late nineteenth century in the wooded mountain regions of New York, where craftsmen and vacationers utilised local, uncultivated timber to construct functional pieces that mirrored the surrounding wilderness.

These pieces are typically constructed using a combination of raw tree branches, saplings, and rootssuch as willow, hickory, or cedarjoined together through mortise and tenon joints, or simply nailed and bound to form structural frames.

Authenticity is usually determined by examining the patination of the wood, traditional hand tools marks, the type of joinery, and natural wear patterns that indicate genuine age rather than modern reproduction.

A rustic stick chair serves as a sculptural accent piece when placed against minimalist walls or paired with sleek modern textiles to create a balanced contrast between organic textures and clean lines.

Preservation involves keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent the unsealed wood from drying out, cleaning only with a dry or slightly damp cloth without harsh chemical polishes.
