DESCRIPTION:
This is a wonderful 8-Day Halifax Moon inlaid mahogany longcase clock which is in superb condition and is exceptionally detailed. The clock is in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home.
If we start with the hood, this has swan necks with superb brass pateras which have a very rare feature of being embossed with a coat of arms. Below there is wonderful section of half matched mahogany veneers. Pretty reeded columns which terminate in brass capitals, flank the hood door. To the rear are plain back splats. The door is mahogany veneered and inlaid with fine stringing and has a pretty bovine knob.
Going down to the trunk, the lovely shaped door has some wonderful grain to the mahogany. Above the door is a wonderful section of half matched mahogany veneers. The door is flanked by reeded bookend columns which again have lovely inlays incorporated into them.The door is also complete with it''s lock and key which is fully working.
Finally the base has canted corners with a frame of inlay with wonderful mahogany veneers to the centre and mahogany banding to the outside of the inlay. It is raised on lovely ogee bracket feet.
The dial with makers name of ''T. DEAN, LEIGH'', has the four corners adorned with beautifully painted and gilded fans and to the centre are two painted and gilded flowers. The dial is set out with Roman Numerals. There is subsidiary date dial. The Halifax moon is wonderful with the moons and also lovely painting of a galleon and a cottage scene. The dial also has the most wonderful fretted fingers.
The movement is eight day duration and is rack striking on a single bell. The movement is in perfect working order and is immaculately clean having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced.
