Below there is wonderful section of half matched mahogany veneers. Pretty reeded columns which terminate in brass capitals, flank the hood door. To the rear are plain back splats. The door is mahogany veneered and inlaid with fine stringing and has a pretty bovine knob.

Going down to the trunk, the lovely shaped door has some wonderful grain to the mahogany. Above the door is a wonderful section of half matched mahogany veneers. The door is flanked by reeded bookend columns which again have lovely inlays incorporated into them. The door is also complete with it's lock and key which is fully working.

Finally the base has canted corners with a frame of inlay with wonderful mahogany veneers to the centre and mahogany banding to the outside of the inlay. It is raised on lovely ogee bracket feet.

The dial with makers name of 'T. DEAN, LEIGH', has the four corners adorned with beautifully painted and gilded fans and to the centre are two painted and gilded flowers. The dial is set out with Roman Numerals. There is subsidiary date dial. The Halifax moon is wonderful with the moons and also lovely painting of a galleon and a cottage scene. The dial also has the most wonderful fretted fingers.

The movement is eight day duration and is rack striking on a single bell. The movement is in perfect working order and is immaculately clean having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced.

There is one 'T. DEAN, LEIGH' listed in 'Greater Manchester Clocks & Clockmakers by EDMUND Davies':

A Halifax moon longcase clock is an eighteenth or nineteenth-century pendulum clock featuring a painted dial with a revolving disc that displays the phases of the moon, a style originating in northern England.

Georgian longcase clocks typically feature cabinets constructed from solid oak or mahogany, often adorned with flame mahogany veneers, brass fitments, and cast or painted iron dials.

Authentic Georgian longcase clocks generally display hand-cut joinery, movement plates secured with brass pins, cast weights, and hand-painted or engraved dials bearing the makers name and location.

A longcase clock serves as a architectural focal point in an entryway, hall, or dining room, providing vertical scale and contrasting warm timber tones against contemporary neutral wall colours.

Maintain the timber cabinet by keeping it in a stable climate away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a microfibre cloth, and applying beeswax sparingly once per year.
