Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE GEORGIAN ERA:
Oxidised pine backboards secured with pins: construction typical of the 1820s and 1830s.
Bird's-eye maple veneer on pine: timber choice favoured in late Georgian interiors.
Fine dark spotting across the bevelled glass: natural aging of original silvering.
Warm shellac polish with light surface wear: old finish built up over generations.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This Georgian wall mirror dates from circa 1830. The piece is constructed from timber with burr maple veneer and glass, showing a deep, warm golden amber colour with a distinct burr timber grain and a moulded inner border. The rectangular profile includes a wide frame around the reflective glass surface. The mirror measures 59 cm high, 48.5 cm wide, and 3 cm deep. In a home today, this wall mirror suits placement above a sideboard in a living room, dining room, or hallway to complement an English Country House aesthetic. The reflective glass provides a functional surface while the wood grain adds natural texture to an interior scheme. The straightforward proportions allow for easy wall hanging in both traditional and transitional rooms.

Late Georgian and William IV period burr maple mirrors feature wide, flat or softly coved rectangular frames covered in highly figured maple veneer. The natural swirl patterns and rich golden hues of burr timber were favoured during this era to create bold geometric focal points.

Authentic 19th-century mirrors typically feature a soft timber carcase, such as pine or deal, veneered with decorative hardwoods like burr maple or rosewood, alongside silvered plate glass and hand-planed backboards.

Authentic frames display natural variations in the timber grain, signs of hand-cut joinery at the mitred corners, oxidisation on the pine backboards, and authentic age-related foxing or silvering breakdown on the original mirror glass.

Position the mirror above a contemporary console table or fireplace mantelpiece to let the warm organic timber contrast against neutral walls or minimalist decor.

Dust the frame regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax sparingly along the timber grain to preserve the original finish, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners on the mirror glass.
