Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian mahogany dining chairs are defined by their dense timber frames, hand-carved details such as scrolls or balloon backs, and robust turned legs. Typically produced during the 19th century, these chairs feature deep timber patination and padded seats upholstered in leather or fine woven textiles.

Primary construction materials included solid Cuban or West Indian mahogany, glued mortise and tenon joints, and brass stud detailing. Upholstery traditionally incorporated natural materials such as horsehair stuffing, webbing, and genuine hide leather.

Authentic period chairs display hand-carved cresting rails, signs of age-appropriate oxidisation beneath the frame, and irregular tool marks on unexposed timber underside surfaces. Joints will show historical wear rather than modern machine precision.

Combine dark mahogany and green leather chairs with a minimalist minimalist timber or stone dining table to create visual contrast. Pairing traditional carved seating with contemporary lighting and neutral wall finishes grounds modern interiors with historical depth.

Maintain mahogany timber frames by dusting regularly with a microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish annually. Keep leather upholstery conditioned with specialist leather balm and position furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or cracking.
