Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1930s Art Deco office filing cabinet exhibits a warm brown timber finish across its solid oak construction. The piece takes the form of a tall storage unit measuring 104 cm high, 45.5 cm wide, and 40 cm deep, designed in a gentleman's library style. Visible details include a slatted roll-down tambour shutter door on the front, four internal drawers featuring cut-out handles, small brass index card holders, brass keyhole escutcheon plate, and a small round wooden knob on the upper locking mechanism. Signs of age and wear are present throughout the surfaces, including surface scuffs, scratches, and fading to the timber. Suitable for use in a home office or study today, this functional storage cabinet provides a compact footprint for organising documents and stationery. The unit operates with a vertical slatted rolling shutter front that conceals the internal drawer stack, while retaining original hardware elements such as the small brass label holders on each drawer pull. The narrow proportions make it straightforward to position against office walls or beside desks without consuming excessive floor space.

FAQs

A tambour front filing cabinet features a flexible shutter door composed of narrow wooden slats mounted on flexible backing, sliding along internal grooves to conceal or reveal document drawers. Popularised in commercial offices during the early 20th century, these units provided secure and space-saving paper management.

Cabinets from this era were predominantly constructed using solid oak or oak veneers, paired with brass fittings such as index card holders and lock escutcheons. The interior drawers were frequently crafted with integrated cut-out handles and wooden sliding tracks designed for daily commercial usage.

Authentic examples feature traditional joinery, original brass hardware displaying age-appropriate patina, and wooden slats fitted into side routing channels. Examining the drawer trays for vintage card holders or manufacturer stamps helps confirm historical authenticity.

These cabinets serve as functional storage solution in modern home offices, hallways, or living areas to house paperwork, art supplies, or electronic accessories. Placing a modern table lamp or ceramic objects on top creates a balanced contrast between utilitarian history and current design.

Clean surfaces using a dry microfiber cloth, periodically applying a quality beeswax polish to preserve the wood grain. Ensure the tambour runner grooves remain clear of debris, applying clear paraffin wax or beeswax along the tracks to ensure smooth vertical operation.
