The nameplate, positioned at the centre of the lid, bears the inscription ''Presented to Mr. John Brown by the employees of Inverkeithing Paper Mill 1911.'' The box showcases remarkable walnut veneers with exceptional graining. The interior includes a tooled leather writing surface, compartments for inkwells, a pen tray, and a lidded nib box. Storage spaces are available beneath both flaps of the writing surface. In keeping with the period, it has secret drawers designed to hide private papers.
