Beautifully drawn and finely made.
The design of this chair, while not an exact match, is closely related to a set of ten chairs supplied by Gillows to Baron Clonbrock, of Clonbrock, Ahascragh, Co. Galway, in 1801, (Christie''s: Important English Furniture, 10th April 2003, lot 29).
85cm high x 52cm wide x 55cm deep
Condition: Although lightweight, the slender frame is solid, strong and tight. The back caning is slightly bowed but intact, with no breaks. Some general surface wear, more concentrated to the tops of the arms, some isolated areas of clouding to the finish. Drop in seat requires a new top coat, one internal seat bracket and the underside of the seat stamped IV.
....and it''s comfortable too
