This is a fine pair of large earthenware Satsuma vases, created at the end of the 19th century. The vases feature a midnight-blue ground with hand-gilded details. They are decorated on one side with scenes of Samurai warriors fighting in a snowy village, while the reverse side is hand-painted with typical Japanese blossoms. The shoulders of the vases are adorned with a gold floral pattern and covered with applied enamel. All the patterns are outlined in gold paint, adding to the intricate design. The vases are further distinguished by their relief decoration, where raised elements—such as enamel dots—create a textured, three-dimensional effect.
