This oversized ''Carriage clock'' in an xquisite rouge marble case with gilded mounts and handle, has an eight day movement with english lever platform escapement striking on a bell. The gilded arabic dial has a foliate centre in frosted ormolu with club and spade hands. The movement is signed by A.D. Mougin. on th etop of the clock a second dial housing a mercury thermometer and compass with fahrenheit and reaumur scales.Mougin was a major french clockmaker from the mid nineteenth century with premises on the Rue de Turenne in Paris, and the Montbeliard region of eastern France.
