This is a beautiful example of the classic Welsh stick chair in native ash, with an elaborately shaped crest rail above a tall back with a two-piece armrest, over a shaped and dished seat supported on four outward-splayed legs.
This is a true collector''s example, of good size and with traces of historical paint under the crest rail, armrest and seat, with the later black varnish largely worn through giving the much sought-after effect of an accumulated surface finish.
Wonderful surface patination, Montgomeryshire, circa 1760.
(There is a filled hole at either side of the front of the seat, but no corresponding hole under the armrest; there is minor re-fixing of the crest rail)
