Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency mantel clocks, produced in Britain during the early nineteenth century, are defined by neoclassical design influences, symmetry, and high-quality horological movements. Casing designs frequently feature drum dials supported by scroll brackets, heavy brass or gilt-bronze mounts, and marble or rosewood bases.

These timepieces were built using brass internal mechanisms, steel arbours, and enamel dials. Casing construction commonly incorporated polished marbles such as vert antique or black marble, alongside cast and hand-chased gilt bronze, known as ormolu.

Authentic Regency single fusee clocks feature a conical brass gear (the fusee) connected via a line or chain to equalise mainspring power output. Look for original cast brass bezels, hand-painted or fired enamel dials with Roman numerals, heavy cast gilt mounts, and period-appropriate movement plates held by brass pillars.

Place the clock as a focal piece on a fireplace mantelpiece, side console table, or library bookshelf. The contrast between dark green marble, gilded accents, and contemporary neutral backdrops highlights its architectural geometry and historical character.

Dust the marble and gilded metalwork gently with a dry microfibre cloth or soft brush, avoiding chemical cleaners that strip gilding or etch marble surfaces. Have the fusee movement serviced by a professional horologist every five to seven years to ensure correct lubrication and operation.
