Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Imari porcelain is a type of Japanese export porcelain produced in the town of Arita, in the province of Hizen, and shipped from the port of Imari. It gained prominence during the Edo period in the late 17th century, highly sought after by European nobility for its vibrant aesthetic.

Imari pieces are crafted from high-fired white clay porcelain and decorated using an underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron red, supplemented by gilt and occasionally other enamel colours such as green and yellow.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-painted designs with a characteristic palette of deep cobalt blue and rust red against a slightly greyish or pitted white porcelain body, often bearing kiln marks or spur marks on the unglazed base.

These pieces can be displayed grouped as a garniture set on a sideboard or mantelpiece, or individually on floating shelves to introduce historic texture, vibrant colour, and pattern into a neutral scheme.

Antique porcelain should be dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth and hand washed only when necessary using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasive sponges, and direct sunlight to protect the overglaze enamels and gilt.
