Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A toilet mirror, also known as a dressing table glass, is a free-standing mirror designed during the 19th century to sit atop a dressing table, chest of drawers, or vanity unit. These mirrors typically featured a swivelling frame set between turned wooden uprights mounted on a solid plinth base.

Victorian vanity mirrors were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods and veneers such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. Construction methods relied on traditional mortise and tenon joinery, hand-turned support columns, brass pivot fittings, and silvered glass mirror plates.

Authentic Victorian examples feature original brass securing pins or thumb screws, hand-planed backboards held by small nails, and natural wood ageing on unseen surfaces. Original mirror glass often exhibits mild foxing, subtle silvering degradation, or slight optical distortion characteristic of 19th-century glassmaking.

Place the mirror on a contemporary console table in a hallway or atop a chest of drawers in a bedroom to create a functional focal point. The warm wood tones contrast effectively against neutral painted walls or minimalist backdrops.

Dust the wood frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish occasionally, buffing along the grain. Avoid spraying glass cleaners directly onto the mirror plate, as moisture can seep behind the frame and damage the backing silvering or timber.
