FAQs

Regency furniture, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1830, is characterised by classical influences derived from ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt, featuring clean lines, dark woods like mahogany, and restrained classical ornamentation.

These pieces are typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods such as mahogany, often incorporating traditional joinery like mortise and tenon, hand-turned legs, and upholstered drop-in or webbed seats.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate tool marks, timber shrinkage consistent with age, hand-cut screws or joints, and occasionally maker stamps or labels from renowned cabinet makers such as Gillows of Lancaster.

Pairing historical timber chairs with a contemporary minimalist dining table creates a striking contrast that highlights the craftsmanship of the antique while maintaining a fresh, balanced living space.

Keep wooden antiques away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, and maintain a stable indoor humidity while treating the surface periodically with traditional beeswax.
