Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

FAQs

The swivel chair was invented in the late 18th century, with Thomas Jefferson famously credited with designing an early version. By the late 19th century, industrial mass production enabled the creation of ergonomic wooden swivel chairs for offices and libraries.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or mahogany, featuring bentwood components, spindle backs, and cast-iron or steel mechanical swivels with brass or cast-iron casters.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as dovetails or dowels, cast-iron mechanical undercarriages with makers marks, and natural timber oxidisation and wear consistent with age.

Pair the chair with a modern minimalist desk to create a striking contrast, or integrate it into a traditional home office setup alongside complementary wood finishes and tailored textiles.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish the wood. Avoid placing the chair in direct sunlight or near heat sources to prevent timber cracking.
