This nineteenth-century antique Dutch mahogany marquetry arm and desk chair dates from around 1800 in the 19th Century Dutch style. The piece is constructed from warm brown mahogany with contrasting fruitwood floral marquetry inlay, finished with a newly recovered white upholstered drop-in seat. Details visible include a shaped top rail, a vasiform centre splat, shaped arms, cabriole legs with claw and ball feet to the front, and outswept back legs. The chair measures 114 cm high, 69 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. Position this armchair at a traditional partner's desk in a study, or use it as a decorative seating option in a living room, hallway, or bedroom. Its compact footprint ensures it fits comfortably in both traditional and transitional interior settings while providing a functional and historic seating solution for everyday use.

Dutch marquetry furniture refers to wooden pieces crafted predominantly in the Netherlands during the 18th and 19th centuries, defined by naturalistic patterns, urns, and floral motifs inlaid into hardwood veneers.

Craftsmen traditionally utilised solid mahogany or walnut frames set with contrasting fruitwood, sycamore, or holly inlays, combined with hand-carved elements and upholstered drop-in seats.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut marquetry veneers, natural age-related patination, hand-sawn joinery, and period-typical structural forms such as vasiform splats and cabriole legs terminating in claw and ball feet.

Position the chair as a standalone accent piece alongside a modern desk or in a quiet corner to let the floral inlays contrast against neutral walls and contemporary textiles.

Keep the chair away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent veneer movement, dust regularly with a soft cloth, and apply natural beeswax annually to protect the wood finish.
