This Anglo-Indian side chair originates from Ceylon, dating from the nineteenth century in the Regency style. Constructed from solid black ebony, the piece incorporates a woven cane seat and stands at 78 cm high, 46 cm deep, and 51 cm wide. The backrest consists of a scrolled top rail and an intermediate rail, both enriched with detailed acanthus leaf carving that matches the decorative motif on the front apron. Turned front legs support the seat structure, complemented by plain rear legs. The ebony surface remains unrestored and unbroken, displaying the original dark timber finish with the cane work rewoven in the traditional style. Suitable for placement as an accent seating option in a residential interior, this chair brings period character to a living space or bedroom.

Anglo-Indian furniture developed during the colonial period when native artisans in South Asia adapted European furniture forms using local timber like ebony and teak, integrating traditional carving techniques.

These chairs feature solid ebony wood frames decorated with hand-carved leaf motifs, combined with hand-woven cane seats intended for tropical air ventilation.

Authentic pieces display considerable weight due to timber density, naturally dark wood without artificial paint, hand-carved relief detailing, and traditional mortise and tenon joinery.

Place the chair as a standalone accent piece in an entryway, bedroom corner, or living area to contrast with neutral wall tones and contemporary fabrics.

Dust the timber framework regularly with a dry cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly to preserve the wood finish, and keep the woven cane seat away from direct heat sources to prevent brittleness.
