Maintain antique oak by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, and nourish the timber periodically using traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.

Pairing historic wooden seating with a contemporary minimalist dining table creates a striking contrast that highlights the rich grain and texture of the antique timber within a modern space.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-tool marks, oxidisation and patina consistent with age, timber shrinkage patterns, traditional joint construction, and signs of genuine wear on the footings.

These pieces are typically constructed from native hardwoods such as oak, utilising traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon joints, hand-cut dovetails, and pegged frames rather than modern metal fasteners.

The George III period spans from 1760 to 1820, characterised by a transition from heavier early-century designs to lighter, more classical proportions influenced by designers like Chippendale, Hepplewhite, and Sheraton.
