Description

Small Well Proportioned and Attractive Oak & Inlay Banded Longcase Clock Circa 1740-50. The Long Trunk Door with Reeded Columns. As is the Hood Door. All Raised on A Shaped Apron.

Height 80.05in or 205cm.

The Good Quality Brass Dial with Silvered Centre and Chapter Ring. Grand Corner Spandrels with Crisp Cherub Heads Indicating Early to Mid 18th Century - George (II) or Earky Georgian Period.

William Harley was born in 1702 into a Family of Clockmakers. In 1717 he was Apprenticed to Thomas Gorsuch. He died in 1764 at the age of 62.

He had a Clockmaker son called Samuel born in 1740 (d 1799). He too had a Clockmaker son called William (II) who was also a Goldsmith who died in 1843. From 1788 - 1802 they Traded as W Harley & Son. There was also a George Harley circa 1784.

The Good Quality 8 Day Movement has been Checked, Serviced & Tested to be in Good Antique Working Order.
