William Harley was born in 1702 into a Family of Clockmakers. In 1717 he was Apprenticed to Thomas Gorsuch. He died in 1764 at the age of 62.
He had a Clockmaker son called Samuel born in 1740 (d 1799). He too had a Clockmaker son called William (II) who was also a Goldsmith who died in 1843. From 1788 - 1802 they Traded as W Harley & Son. There was also a George Harley circa 1784.
