Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of Swedish Gustavian style armchairs, dating from 1880, consists of two serpentine front seats upholstered in plain beige linen. The timber frames are painted off-white with distressed wear and detailed hand-carved floral motifs along the serpentine aprons and shaped armrests. Each armchair stands on short cabriole legs and includes a removable loose seat cushion nestled between padded backrests and sweeping arms. The wood finish shows visible aging with crackled paintwork around the edges and joints. Practical for everyday seating in a living room, study, or bedroom, these chairs measure 81 cm high, 71 cm wide, and 94 cm deep. The neutral colour palette and classic French Chateau aesthetic suit both traditional and contemporary interior schemes as accent seating.

Gustavian furniture originated in Sweden during the late 18th century, heavily influenced by French Neoclassicism and Rococo designs. Key hallmarks include pale or distressed painted finishes, carved wooden frames, and restrained, classic silhouettes.

These armchairs typically feature carved softwood or hardwood frames painted in muted tones like soft grey, cream, or off-white. The upholstery frequently uses natural fibres such as linen, hemp, or cotton to complement the understated aesthetic.

Period pieces show traditional joinery, peg construction, and layered paint finishes that display genuine age-related wear and patination. Original upholstery construction often incorporates natural padding over hand-strung webbed seat frames.

A pair of painted Swedish armchairs works well positioned opposite a contemporary sofa to create a balanced seating area. Their neutral palette and textured wood allow them to integrate into modern minimalist, traditional, or transitional interior schemes.

Clean painted wooden frames with a dry, soft microfibre cloth, avoiding liquid chemicals that could strip aged finishes. Vacuum linen upholstery gently using a soft brush attachment and position chairs away from direct sunlight to prevent fabric degradation.
