FAQs

The wingback armchair originated in Britain during the late 17th century, specifically designed to protect sitters from drafts and trap heat from fireside hearths.

Authentic period pieces typically feature solid hardwood frames such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, traditional horsehair stuffing, and hand-tied coil springs.

Authentication involves inspecting the frame construction methods, such as hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, signs of age in the wood, and traditional webbing rather than modern staples.

Pairing a traditional armchair with contemporary minimalist furnishings creates a balanced look, often enhanced by using contrasting, modern textiles during reupholstery.

Preservation requires keeping wooden frames away from direct sunlight and moisture, regularly dusting exposed timber with a dry cloth, and consulting professional conservators for structural repairs.
